What did you do last Saturday Night?
ADELE'S ASTROLOGICAL ADVENTURE
The residence of the Land of Dickie are always looking for a new way to enjoy life...and we are very fortunate to have a very lively crew who enjoy initiating new adventures, and so begins the " Saturday Night from Heaven". Well that is how it was suppose to play out!
After months in the planning our big night had arrived, we were about to embark on an evening of exploring the heavens
from a new facility owned and operated by Grandview Resort in Hunstville. The observatory is of course located away from the light pollution of the area and thusly the trip to and from is rather unique. If we had been
traveling in the summer to our destination the trip would have been quite routine for our hardy Dickie Lke. Adventurers, but as we have it the night and weather made our journey memorable.
We were told that our trip to the observatory would take us down a logging road which was quite accessible by four wheel drive, and it seemed to be, but only half of our group were in the four wheel drive vehicle. We left the resort a very merry bunch, in great anticipation of the events to follow at the observatory, we knew however that the weather was not cooperating and we knew we could not view our solar system, but would have to make due with the slide show and the tour of the facility.
The snow we were experiencing turned to a very wet snow as we traveled down or should I say up the logging road.
The cream on the cake was the final hill, MY GOODNESS. The four wheel drive made it up but it's tracks created a very slick surface for the vehicles that followed, this was the beginning of our trip from hell......
The group in the van made it to the observatory, only to find it locked and very very dark, and our co-adventurers were not behind us. Oooops! You have to understand during all of this we are in a very dark environment, the wind is now quite strong and the temps have risen, to create a wet sleet, and the roads are suddenly very slick...where are the rest of our group?
Our driver decided that we should go back to find our lost friends and doing so we managed some very exciting maneuvers...our driver was very good. We found our travel mates with their car cross wise on the road and
we are now traveling down the very steep hill and unable to stop...our driver hit the ditch...yeah... and the car was saved.
We rescued the group and decided that the trip to the top should be postponed. Now we had to get back to civilization....after great patience and good driving skills, we made it back to highway 60, with only a little stress and a memory made.
We returned to The Resort, and received our money back, everyone was fine and we will plan the next visit to the observatory in the SUMMER!!!!! If you would like to join us let us know...you could be part of the next Saturday Night from Heaven.
