July 28, 2008 - Baysville Library Raffle Tickets
From Cindy Bailey

Please go to the Baysville Library and buy raffle tickets for the lovely handmade winter holiday quilt(ok it kind of looks like CHRISTMAS) quilt. See the quilt in the library. It is spectacular and would make a beautiful gift or keep it yourself. Use it or hang it up. The money goes towards childrens programing and the library expansion. The childrens programs are of value to local and cottaging children. They have a great library which I'm sure most people use. Please support this great library. The community needs it. Thanks

From Paul Breslin

Hi everyone... You should now see a "Forum" button at the top right of this page which will take you to a general bulletin board for creating as many discussion topics as we want. If the forum works out OK it will replace this news page and possibly the Association page.

You must register to post new topics and articles. Please give it a try and let us know what you think.

Cheers!!

May 26, 2008 - Beware of Direct Energy Heating Protection Plan.
From Paul Breslin

We recently discovered that Direct Energy marks up their parts by 400% over retail cost. They also charge a "diagnostic fee" on top of their labour charges. Since their protection plan only covers a maximum of $1000 per year this price gouging makes the plan close to worthless.

My advice: Take the money you would pay for a protection plan and put it in a savings account. Find a local company that will service your heating equipment for a fair price and pay them on an as-needed basis and you'll probably do just fine.

Cheers.

April 16, 2008 - Sixty Years Of Service.
From Bruce S. Thomas

Very few of us know of people who have stayed with any task for longer than perhaps our years of employment or even marriage. However, there are those few special individuals who have gone well beyond the normal times of affiliation with other individuals or groups and we on Dickie Lake are fortunate to have one of our own in this elite category. Flora Sloski, who spends her summers and autumns at the lake, has distinguished herself as the chior leader and organist of her church in Milton, Ont. for SIXTY years. Recently, her congregation and many close friends attended a gathering of celebration and honouring for her devotion to her church and its ministry of music. Opportunities such as this don't come along very often and I thought that we on the great Dickie Lake should make the effort to extend our most sincere congratulations to Flora through our web site. As you pass her property during your visits to the lake (1075 Dickie Lake Rd.),share a wave or toot your horn to say WELL DONE NEIGHBOUR or give her a call. Bruce Thomas

February 20, 2008 - Join Earth Hour
From Dave Flucker

Hey, I just signed up to the new Earth Hour website for 2008 and I thought you might like to take a look and possibly sign up too. Earth Hour is on 29 March 2008 at 8pm, and it looks like it's going to be really big. So far, as well as Sydney, there'll also be Chicago, Tel Aviv, Manila, Copenhagen, Melbourne, Brisbane and Toronto all turning off their lights for an hour in the name of fighting global warming. And I'm sure there'll be more cities by March. Sign up for Earth Hour with me by visiting http://www.earthhour.org/user/6SHA and join the movement.

February 17, 2008 - Province wide ban on the cosmetic use of pesticide
From Sudhir Joshi

Government of Ontario has proposed a new legislation, which will ban the use of pesticide when used for cosmetic purposes (on lawns and in gardens). The new law, if passed, will be similar to the one that is in effect in the City of Toronto. We have raised this issue before and the scientific evidence against the use of pesticide is proven beyond doubt because of its effects on human health and the environment.
The government of Ontario is seeking comments from the citizens of Ontario on this issue. We urge cottagers who are concerned about the quality of our lake water to click on the following link:

Would you take a moment, right now, to send a quick on-line message to the
Environment Ministry to support the pesticide ban?

All you need to do is

January 28, 2008 - How's the Snow
From Paula Elliott

Hi Dickie Lakers: I love the new picture on the home page. Looks like you are having fun even though there are icilces falling from you hair.
I hear that you have a lot of snow but the snowmobiling is not the greatest yet. Hopefully it will get better.
Had a rainy day here in Phoenix yesterday.
Fred and I have been in swimming several times and the hot tub here several times. No icicles for us.
Hope all those at Dickie Lake are having a good winter.
Take care.
