December 1, 2007 - Hi From Dickie Lake

Hi Everyone:
Well there is lots of snow up here at Dickie lake.
The Dickie lake Curling Team came in third in the Community Curling Bonspiel. Roy Donnelley, Anna Landry, Sue & Wayne Arbeau represented Dickie Lake and did very well. If you like to curl then check out the curling club in Baysville. They have may different bonspiels throughout the year.
I still have to make the pictures small so that I can include them. Hopefully you will see pictures soon.

Although I was not at the picnic physically, I was definitly there in spirit...I received a phone call from a very excited Paula to tell us (here in Newfoundland (11:00 pm nfld time) how successful the day was. Thank you to all who helped make the day such a great success, and a special thanks to Anna Landry who stepped in to take my place. We just seem to be getting bigger and better each year.

August 5, 2007 - WOW - What a Regatta!!

Hello Dickie Lakers and Friends:
The weather was perfect and we had the biggest regatta in years. We had over 197 people participate in the events by either dropping by to see friends, staying for several of the competitions or helping out with the events.
We had 4 residences represented who had not attended previously and 2 families who came after several years of not attending.
The results will be posted later but I wanted to thank everyone for their support.
Mark the calander for next year's regatta! The Saturday of the long weekend in August.

July 29, 2007 - HORSESHOE TOURNAMENT

Hi Dickie Lakers:
If you weren't one of the 25 plus people who participated or watched the Horseshoe Tournament you missed a great time. The women's competition was great at the first level but the championship game was a blow out but I think everyone had fun just the same.
The men's games were closer during the round robin and a nail biter during the championship. The last shot was a ringer and thus that team won the championship.
No names mentioned so that you will have a reason to come out next week to the Annual Regatta and see who takes home the trophies.

WE ARE HAVING OUR HORSE SHOE TOURNAMENT ON JULY 28,2007.
IT WILL START AT 1:00 P.M. AT JACK SHERRY'S 1091 DICKIE LAKE RD. W.
WE HOPE EVERYONE WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS PRE PICNIC SPORT.

You may have seen her on Dickie lake, she's been on the lake for years. She was still pulling the young ones around on a ski biscuit up until her retirement to the boat house at the end of summer 2005. We would love to see her go to a good home on the lake. Make us an offer.

June 25, 2007 - Re-Numbering on D.L. Road...

Hello Dickie Lakers:
I am writing you to ask if you would be interested in attending a meeting in regard to changing the name or numbers of your present address?
The Fire Department has Dickie Lake Road - DLR East & DLR West as a top priority to clarify so that response times will be good.
A proposal that I put forth to Steve Watson, who is the member at the Township who is in charge of making the clarification, was the idea of starting the number system at Mrs. Flucker's end of the lake so that her number would be say 801 and the numbering would continue increasing until it reaches Doug and Bruce Thomas's place which is 1051 and then the numbers would continue. Dickie Lake Road and Dickie Lake Road East would have new numbers and they would be known only as Dickie Lake Road and the numbers on Dickie Lake Road West would stay the same but they would drop the word West from their address.
It seems like a good solution, to a rather current confusing situation. At the moment we have 10 numbers that are duplicated between Dickie Lake Road and Dickie Lake Road East.
Being a government proposal, there are many stages to go through. The first being input from the residents and that is why I am writing to you at this time.
If possible, I would like to set up a meeting between Steve Watson and Fire Chief between July 17th and July 27th. Many of the members of the Executive will attend but it would be good to have input from others.
I would appreciate your comments and suggestion for a meeting. A meeting held during the daytime is most convenient for both Steve and the Fire Chief although not necessarily the best for us Dickie Lakers. An evening meeting on a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday would probably work for all parties.
Let me know you thoughts and when you might be able to attend a meeting. I will also mention this information at the General Meeting to be held on July 8th at 10:00 a.m. at the Baysville Seniors' Centre.

Hello Dickie Lakers: We have baby loons on our lake again this year. There are two of them. Please be careful when you are boating and be aware of their existence. Mother Nature sometimes takes one of the baby loons, let it not be a Human error that kills them.

Hello to everyone. The snow is going. Many of you might be up for Easter weekend, so be aware that the road going west is definitely in spring conditions (pot holes galore and soft spots in places). My driveway is soft so be aware before you drive down your driveway. You want to be able to get down.
As you saw on the home page we will have clothing for sale this summer with our new logo on it. More information to follow.
Directors' meeting will be held at my place of the Sunday of the long weekend in May. The Annual Meeting is the 2nd Saturday in July so try and make it. The Annual Regatta is the Saturday of the long weekend in August. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun.

Finally we are enjoying the winter as only Muskokan's do.
We have about a foot or so of beautiful white snow, and
the Temps are definitly in the minus double digits.
We are enjoying many sunny days great for winter sports.
So if you haven't enjoyed winter at the cottage this year, now
is the time!
